About Mike
Mike Thompson graduated from St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in 1995. He went on to earn a Bachelors of Science in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1999, where he also served an as officer in the Corps of Cadets.
After graduation, Mike began his career in the marine industry, serving as a deckhand aboard harbor tugs on the Mississippi River. As he gained experience, he worked as a mate and captain aboard inland and near coastal tugboats across the northern Gulf of Mexico and lower Mississippi River. He earned several U.S. Coast Guard licenses including: 100-ton Master; Third Mate, Unlimited Tonnage; Master of Towing; and First-Class Pilotage on the Mississippi
River from New Orleans to Baton Rouge.
In May 2010, Mike earned his J.D. from Loyola University of New Orleans College of Law where he was a member of the Loyola Law Review, Moot Court, and the St. Thomas More Inn of Court. After graduation, Mike practiced almost exclusively admiralty and maritime law at a regional, mid-size firm. In 2018, Mike started Thompson Law Office, PLLC representing represents small and mid-size companies across a spectrum of business sectors. His practice is comprised of
transactional and civil litigation matters in several areas including admiralty and maritime law, construction law, and corporate governance. Mike also assists clients in a wide range of operational issues from negotiating commercial agreements and evaluating insurance coverage to coordinating responses to daily operational issues and representing clients before municipal governments and state agencies. He also represents clients in personal injury and first-party
insurance claims.
In November 2019, Mike was elected to the Mississippi State Senate to represent District 48 and is in his second term. Mike’s committee assignments include chair of Ports and Marine Resources; vice-chair of Environmental Protection, Conservation, and Water Resources; Appropriations; Constitution; Gaming; Veterans and Military Affairs; and Judiciary A. Mike resides in Long Beach, Mississippi with his wife, Lindsay, and two sons.

Inside-Outside, Inc. v. King, 2022-00221, Circuit Court of Harrison County, Mississippi: Secured civil judgment against company’s former bookkeeper and her husband for amounts wrongfully embezzled from company. Assisted in pursuit of criminal charges.
Puckett Machinery Co. v. M/V MY THERAPY in rem, et al., Case No. 2021-00193, S.D. Miss.: Successfully recovered amounts owed to diesel engine repair company for unpaid labor and materials in vessel arrest action.
Click Boarding, Inc. v. Shaggy's, LLC, Case No. 2021-01063, County Court of Harrison County, Mississippi: Secured summary judgment for defendant in breach of contract claim asserted by vendor.
The Prudential Insurance Co. of America v. Johnson, Case No. 2021-00123 (N.D. Miss.): Represented surviving spouse in life insurance benefits dispute against decedent’s children from previous marriage.
920 South Beach, LLC v. SWK, LLC, Case No. 2021-00263, S.D. Miss.: Successfully defended real estate developer against claims asserted by adjacent landowner. Secured dismissal of plaintiff’s claims on motion to dismiss.
Legacy Diesel and Marine, LLC v. M/V LANTANA, in rem, Case No. 2020-00262, S.D. Miss.: Represented diesel engine repair company in claims against vessel and vessel owner for unpaid invoices for work performed and services provided. Secured favorable pre-trial settlement.
The Lathan Company, Inc. v. The City of New Orleans, Case No. 2019-00986, Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana: Represented general contractor in dispute with the City of New Orleans for City’s failure to pay for work performed. Efficient handling resulted in favorable settlement after discovery without motion practice.
C-Mar America, Inc. v. M/V NOR GOLIATH, Case No. 2019-00391, S.D. Miss.: Represented crewing agency in successful recovery of crew wages and other costs incurred in vessel arrest action.
C-Log Marine, LLC v. Quality First Construction, LLC, No. 2018-07619, E.D. LA.: Fully recovered unpaid charter hired and other amounts owed from charterer.
PURE v. Garcia & Sons Development, LLC et al, No. 2018-00234, Circuit Court of Harrison County, Mississippi: Served as Moeller counsel for defendant contractor in dispute alleging product liability claims and incorrect insulation of corrugated stainless steel tubing used to supply natural gas in residential home after lighting strike caused fire.
Dannic Solutions, LLC v. GDL Properties, LLC, No. 2017-00026, Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana: Represented developer in dispute with partners and contractors stemming from incorrect and defective work. Secured favorable settlement after filing motion for summary judgment.
Yellin v. The Lathan Company, Inc., No. 2017-12102, Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana: Successfully defended contractor against claims for defective workmanship and cost overruns on historical restoration of residential building in warehouse district. Client awarded fully favorable defense judgment after three-day bench trial.
Buck Town Contractors & Company v. K-Belle Consultants, LLC, No. 2015-00811, Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana: Represented subcontractor in filing and pursuing lien claim against contractor and project owner for work performed and services provided. Secured favorable settlement on eve of trial after developing case through motion practice.
